Sanctuary Summer Media Camp

Sanctuary Summer Media CampThis summer for the first time we brought a free Sanctuary Summer Media Camp to the youths of North Troy and beyond! For an entire week at the end of July, our volunteer youth media crew organized activities with computers, video, bikes, poetry, music, dance, food sculptures and more, with free breakfast and lunch every day!

Twenty-five participants between the ages of 8 and 18 gathered in the community room at the historic AME Zion Church (corner of 5th Avenue and 103rd Street in Troy) to gain new perspectives on mass media and advertising while developing creative projects centered around some of the things they love most—including music, dance and food.

Co-sponsors of the Sanctuary Summer Media Camp included NY Media Alliance, AME Zion Church, Holy Serenity Church of God in Christ, the Honest Weight Food Coop, the Troy NAACP, Troy Bike Rescue, 518 Positive Reinforcement and the Nutrition Consortium of NY State Summer Food Service program. Funding was provided in part by the NY State Council on the Arts and individual donors to The Sanctuary for Independent Media.
